Logline: Relationship secrets come to light for a Governor during re-elections.
INT. LAVISH BEDROOM
We are in a lavish Master Bedroom. There is a large bed, a vanity dresser, a large walk in closet and en suite. It’s lavishly decorated and clearly owned by someone with money and power. On one bed-side table is a stack of books, philosophical and fantasy, and above are framed degrees with the name JESSICA WILLIAMS. The other bed-side-table is bare, with only charging ports for a phone and a lamp. There is a single book on it, some classic, but it’s dusty and untouched, no bookmark to dictate anyone’s place.
Mrs. Jessica Williams– a woman of no more than 35– is sitting in front of a vanity, preparing to get ready for the night. She’s wearing a floor length gown that has off-the-shoulder sleeves.
Mr. Mason Williams– a man of the same age– is in the room as well, getting dressed in a tuxedo.
Jessica Williams is visibly annoyed, sending glares to her husband through the glass of the mirror.
JESSICA WILLIAMS
I don’t want to go to another gala.
Mason Williams turns to look at her through the mirror as he fixes his necktie. They both remain silent as he makes his way over to her, she fixes her earrings in their places. Finally, he stands behind her and gently smooths his hands over her exposed shoulders before settling heavily around her shoulders. They’re both silent but glaring at one another through the mirror.
MASON WILLIAMS
I know that. That’s why I didn’t ask you to come; I told you to.
Mr. Williams offers a smug smile before turning his back to go inside their walk in closet, leaving the door open a crack as he does so. Jessica remains seated, rolling her eyes before trying to reach around to zip her dress on her own.
MASON (O.C.)
James will be there!
Jessica freezes in the mirror, finally giving up on the zipper as she tries to pull herself together. She can’t let on that the idea of James being there tonight excites her. She clears her throat, shrugging to herself in the mirror: fake it till you make it.
JESSICA
Oh?
MASON (O.C.)
(mocking)
Oh?
Mr. Williams kicks the closet door open so they can see one another again. He’s sitting on an ottoman in the closet, tying his shoes.
MASON
(coyly)
Don’t play stupid with me, darling. We both know how much you adore my best friend.
Jessica stays silent and walks over to Mr. Williams as he finishes tying his shoes. She walks over, turns her back to him and bares her unzipped dress to him.
JESSICA
I adore all of your friends. They’ve attributed to your gubernatorial win.
Mr. Williams zips her dress without a word. She returns to the mirror for final touches as he slips his arms in his tuxedo jacket. He disappears for a moment inside the closet, leaving Jessica to silently calm her nerves in the mirror before he comes back out, walking up behind her once more.
MASON
What’s that thing you liked to tell me when we were campaigning? Fight fire with fire? Consider this a checkmate, doll.
Mr. Williams brings a pair of shoes from behind his back, setting them on the top of her vanity counter as he levels his mouth with her ear, whispering in it tauntingly
MASON
Wear these tonight. He’ll like the way they look wrapped around his body.
Jessica blinks dumbly at his response before bending down and slipping the shoes on her feet. Mr. Williams remains beside her, smirking as she looks up at him at her new height.
MASON
Ready to go, milady?
